How to Use an AHA BHA Peel Safely at Home

An AHA BHA peel is a weekly exfoliating treatment that helps unclog the look of pores and smooth uneven texture. At 30% AHA and 2% BHA it is a high-strength product, so how you use it matters as much as what is in the bottle.

Who it suits

It is best for oily, normal and combination skin that tolerates actives well. It is not for sensitive, broken, sunburnt or irritated skin, or for skin that is already using a strong exfoliant.

Before your first use: patch test

Apply a small amount on your inner arm or behind the ear, follow the leave-on time on the pack, rinse, and wait 24 hours. If you see redness, itching or burning, do not use it on your face.

Step by step

  1. Use at night only, no more than once a week.
  2. Cleanse and pat skin completely dry.
  3. Apply a thin, even layer, avoiding the eyes, lips and nostrils.
  4. Follow the leave-on time on the pack, usually no more than 10 minutes. Start shorter the first time.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
  6. Follow with a gentle, hydrating serum such as Niacinamide + Hyaluronic.

What not to combine

Do not use the peel on the same night as retinol, scrubs or other exfoliating acids. Skip it for a few days before and after waxing or threading.

The morning after

Exfoliated skin is more sensitive to the sun. Apply SPF 50 every morning while you use a peel, and reapply outdoors.
